Cuyo, a small, remote island in the Sulu Sea, was once an outpost of Spanish civilisation. The vibrancy and unique nature of Cuyonon culture is revealed during the fiesta of their patron saint, Augustine. Partly a re-enactment of the C17th conversion of the native islanders to Catholicism, the week-long fiesta is a time for music, dance and giving thanks.
