Eighty nautical miles from mainland Palawan, two coral atolls rise from the volcanic depths of the Sulu Sea providing a habitat for dolphins and whales, as well as vital breading grounds for seabirds. Tubbataha Reefs Natural Park is a protected area where fishing is prohibited and visitors are strictly regulated. Both Bird Island and the South Islet, Tubbataha’s only bodies of land, are off-limits to anyone but Marine Park Rangers and conservation scientists.
