Coron is a small town on the south coast of Busuanga Island, part of the Calamianes chain in northern Palawan. To the south, across a thin channel, lies Coron Island, an ancestral domain of the Tagbanua people.
These photographs document a simple way of life that still exists around these islands – bamboo houses built on stilts, small-scale fishing and travel by traditional paddleboat. The mountainous Calamian landscape is a dramatic setting for people’s everyday activities. Dynamic cloud formations over the islands lend a beautiful and shifting light to shores lined with emerald-green mangrove forests, dusky hillsides and the magnificent silhouette of Coron Island.
